Write that Essay Digital Tool
During the year, a number of schools throughout the Taupō Kāhui Ako have signed their students up to the Writer's Toolbox. This latest Write that Essay digital programme is designed to fully-scaffold both sentence writing and paragraph instruction. With the programme having an artificial intelligence, the toolbox will assess the quality of the student’s writing and provide individualised feedback to improve the quality of writing.
Over lockdown, Hilltop School were sending their Year 5-8 students writing tasks home through the WTE digital platform. This enabled the teachers to monitor what the students were doing at home, as well as being able to look at the detailed analysis that is accumulated on each child. Many of the students were extremely motivated to write and enjoyed the challenge of trying to increase their overall writing percentage. Each day, a fun writing challenge is set for the children and this was often the highlight of their distant learning experience.
While in lockdown, Doctor Ian Hunter presented free webinars on using the WTE digital tool. These were enjoyed by many teachers and provided excellent Professional Development on delivering quality writing programmes. Luckily, these webinars have been put onto the Write that Essay YouTube channel.
Congratulations to St Patrick’s School who were the lucky recipients of year’s worth of free Writer’s Toolbox subscriptions for their students. This will be a wonderful addition to their literacy programme and will be enjoyed by the students and staff.
