Precision in Writing Kāhui Ako Workshop

On Thursday 6th August, we kicked off this term's PLD opportunities with a writing workshop that focused on encouraging precision.

Teachers from TNT, Mountview, St Pats, Taupō Intermediate, Waipahihi, Marotiri, and Whakamaru came together to find out about strategies that encourage our learners to be more precise in their writing. This time, we focused on how to improve non-fiction writing as well as covering a range of sentence types that lend themselves well to this form of writing.

As always, we take part in the process ourselves by challenging our own writing habits and reflecting on what we need to model to our learners. Modelling how to feed precise information into non-fiction writing, Mandy took us through the '3 Times Rewrite' challenge. In addition, we recapped and shared good techniques for teaching the Red, White and Blue Sentence, The Power Sentence, and the Preposition Start Sentence.

After these workshops, ASLs share all lesson resources with participants to take back to use in their classroom the next day. Please feel free to come along to further sessions in Term 3 Week 5 (Expansion in Fiction Writing) and Term 3 Week 7 (Digital Tool Sharing) . Everyone is welcome!
